# What is Enhancer?

Enhancer is a **liquidity & yield optimization layer** for decentralized finance (DeFi). In simple terms, it acts as a meta-protocol that works across various DeFi platforms to **optimize liquidity incentives and yield** for both users and protocols. Rather than creating a new exchange or lending service, Enhancer integrates with existing ones, tracking user deposits and activities via API connections. It **redistributes additional rewards** (also called *top-up rewards* or *boosts*) to liquidity providers based on objective metrics and policies. This means if you provide liquidity on a partner protocol, Enhancer can reward you extra, on top of that protocol’s standard yield, in a transparent and automated way.

Enhancer’s goal is to transform liquidity provision into a **fair, transparent, and efficient market**. By establishing common metrics and standards, it aims to solve issues like fragmented liquidity, poor user experiences, lack of data on liquidity effectiveness, and security concerns in DeFi. In essence, Enhancer creates a win-win environment: protocols achieve more **sustainable growth and stable liquidity**, while liquidity providers (LPs) earn **healthier, more predictable rewards** for their participation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.enhancer.finance/overview/what-is-enhancer.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
